Storytelling through Shadow Puppetry

Storytelling through Shadow Puppetry- Hosted by master puppeteer Pandora Gastelum of The Mudlark Puppeteers and New Orleans Giant Puppet Festival

Each student will begin this course by outlining a simple narrative. Inspiration can be taken from a real life experience or drawn from a favorite book. Together, we will translate the words of each story into pictures. Participants will be guided through turning pictures into shadow puppets carved from paper.

We will explore techniques for creating both static and moveable figures and approaches to lighting and staging as well as basic sound design. Each student will complete the course with the elements of a shortform shadow performance. This course begins with a three hour orientation. The following sessions are two hours. Work developing the piece outside of class time will be encouraged.

Ages 12+. We will be working with razors. Limit 20 students. Suggested sliding scale $120 for the complete course.

At The Mudlark Public Theatre 1200 Port St
